The Children (2007) represents the societal impact of capitalist control over the mass production and consumption of our food, energy and pharmaceuticals. Wolf Rilla’s sci-fi horror Village of the Damned (1960) is referenced as the powerful super-intelligent children appearing in the film are re-contextualised within a new collective vision of the future, the cultural ‘horror’ that is globalised consumption. The “Children” are devoid of emotion or conscience regarding the death and societal destruction they cause. Each piece represents a globalised industry; fruit production, energy consumption and pharmaceuticals.
